For the season, he tallied 134 tackles, 95 of which were unassisted. He led all NFL rookies in tackles. ... Added two sacks, three interceptions and one fumble recovery. ... The recovery and one of the interceptions came in the victory at Tampa Bay. Along with 10 tackles and two passes defenses, Barnett earned rookie-of-the-week honors. ... Thanks to intelligence and tremendous sideline-to-sideline speed, Barnett overcame lack of size and played on a team-high 87.1 percent of defensive snaps. ... Signed through 2009.
Green Bay's first-round selection in the 2003 NFL draft (29th pick overall). ... Likely to be opening-day starter, either at weak-side or middle linebacker. Slotted for the middle to start with. Given Packers linebacking problems — subpar play last season and two of three starters from a year ago have been jettisoned — Barnett had better start.
