| Biography: |
The Vikings signed Ralph Brown on Sept. 14, 2004, after placing Ken Irvin on injured reserve because of a ruptured Achilles tendon. The fifth-year defensive back was released by Washington after playing the majority of his career with the New York Giants.
2004: Brown turned into a valuable special teams player and a bit contributor in the Vikings defensive backfield. He finished seventh on the team in special teams tackles with seven.
2003: Played in 11 games with a career-high seven starts. Had 41 tackles, two interceptions and eight passes defensed in his final season with the Giants.
2002: Started two games, finishing with 25 tackles, an interception, a fumble recovery and three passes defensed.
2001: Played in eight games and finished with five tackles on special teams.
2000: Played in two games on special teams before being placed on injured reserved because of a kidney laceration.
College: Started 51 consecutive games for Nebraska. Ended his career with 143 tackles and 11 interceptions, third-best in school history. Set school records with 253 interception return yards and 50 passes broken up. Was a semifinalist for the Jim Thorpe Award, given to the country’s best defensive back. Communications major.
Personal: Was a high school classmate and teammate of former Viking Brian Russell at Bishop Amat (LaPuenta, Calif.) High School, where he was named All-America by Parade, SuperPrep, Blue Chip and The National Recruiting Advisor. Finished seventh in the state with 2,246 yards rushing and scored the game-winning TD against Los Angeles Loyola in the state’s Division I championship game. Also played defensive back and lettered three times in track.
