| Biography: |
Corey Chavous is more than a football player; he is a football analyst. Chavous especially enjoys analyzing the NFL draft for media outlets and has a room loaded with more than 1,000 videotapes to support his knowledge of other players.
His challenges in 2002 were applying his knowledge in the NFC North after spending four years with the Arizona Cardinals and making a midseason move from cornerback to safety.
2004: Fractured his arm in the season finale and was unavailable for the two playoff games. Finished as the second-leading tackler on the team with 112 and added nine passes defensed. Selected by his teammates as the 2004 Ed Block Courage Award winner. Through three seasons, has started all 48 regular-season games.
2003: Established himself as one of the top defensive backs in the league, being named to his first Pro Bowl as a starting strong safety after his first full season at the position. Led the Vikings with 108 tackles and ranked third in the NFC with eight interceptions. Named NFC Defensive Player of the Week in the season opener. Both of his career interceptions for touchdowns have come at the expense of the Detroit Lions.
2002: Started all 16 games between cornerback and safety for the Vikings, his first season starting every game in the NFL. His move to safety bolstered the Vikings’ pass defense. Finished with 89 tackles, three interceptions and 10 passes defensed, including a nine-tackle game against the defending Super Bowl champ New England Patriots (11/24).
2001: Started 14 games for the Cardinals and ranked sixth on the team with 87 tackles.
2000: Started only one game, registering 51 tackles.
1999: Played in 15 games, starting four and had 53 tackles.
College: Chavous is fourth in Vanderbilt history with 12 interceptions as a four-year starter. He had 199 career tackles and 31 passes defensed.
Personal: Was an all-area and all-district player at Silver Bluff High School in Aiken, S.C., where he was a classmate of Vikings wide receiver D’Wayne Bates.
