| Biography: |
The Vikings signed Rushen Jones as a rookie free agent after the 2003 draft.
At that time, the scouts said: Solidly built athlete with some tools to develop. Tough and physical. Is better suited for zone-style pass defense than being locked up man-to-man with receivers.
2004: Registered one special teams tackle in the regular season and had two against Philadelphia in the postseason matchup. Played in five regular-season games but was not with the team for 10 weeks during the season.
2003: Made the Vikings’ 53-man roster as an undrafted rookie free agent and was active for 11 games. Used on special teams, where he had 16 tackles, fourth on the team.
College: Started 38 of 39 games at Vanderbilt, making 180 tackles, three interceptions and 25 passes defensed. All-SEC second-team selection by The NFL Draft Report and team captain as a senior. Third-team Freshman All-American by The Sporting News. Majored in human and organizational development.
Personal: Two-year starter at Whitehaven (Memphis, Tenn.) High School. Named Memphis Commercial Appeal Regional Player of the Year and All-Memphis as a senior. Finished second in the state in long jump and member of the regional champion 400-meter relay team.
