Biography:
Chris Liwienski’s ride up and down the Vikings offensive line has featured switches in position, but his rise to starter was a continuous progression.

Two-time Pro Bowl center Jeff Christy and current starting right guard David Dixon both used the NFL practice squad in their ascent to eventually start on the Vikings’ offensive line. Liwienski did the same, ending up as the late Korey Stringer’s replacement at right tackle in 2001 and 2002. He started at left guard in 2003 and was rising to the level of Pro Bowl consideration.

2004: Moved his streak to 64 consecutive games started, fourth in team history by a guard. Made his first start in a playoff game and has been a part of one of the league’s best offenses.

2003: Part of a starting offensive line that opened every game as a unit with Bryant McKinnie, Liwienski, Matt Birk, David Dixon and Mike Rosenthal. Part of the NFL’s No. 1 offense.

2002: Was one of three offensive linemen on the team to start all 16 games. Made 32 straight starts at right tackle, and was instrumental in the Vikings’ top-rated rushing attack.

2001: Moved from left guard to right tackle early in training camp after the Stringer tragedy. Started all 16 games at right tackle.

2000: Started the season opener as a replacement for the injured Corbin Lacina at left guard and went on to play in 13 more regular-season games and two playoff games. Split time with Lacina much of the season.

1999: Was waived three days prior to the Vikings’ regular-season opener in order to re-sign Mike Morris as the long snapper. He was re-signed to the practice squad a day later and stayed there for three months. On Dec. 10, was elevated to the active roster for the final six games of the season (was inactive for them).

1998: Started his NFL career being drafted in the seventh round by the Detroit Lions. Released at the end of training camp and signed to the Vikings practice squad on Aug. 31, 1998. Moved to the active roster in November and saw his only action of 1998 in one game on extra point protection.

College: Liwienski was a three-year starter for Indiana University at tackle, and started 36 of 43 games during his four years there. He played in the Hula Bowl following his senior season.
