How Acquired: Taken in the first round of the 2002 draft by the Vikings with the seventh overall selection.

McKinnie is considered more of a pass blocker than a run blocker, but at 6-foot-8, 343 pounds, he can move defensive linemen. “I wanted a guy bigger than me, and we got one,” former Vikings coach Mike Tice said after drafting McKinnie in April 2002. Tice compared McKinnie to Orlando Pace, an enormous perennial Pro Bowl tackle already in the league. McKinnie is also extremely athletic.
2005: Started all 16 games to increase his consecutive starts total to 55 games. He was the only Vikings offensive lineman to start every game during the season, as injuries and ineffective play led to the Vikings starting six different combinations of lineman during their 16 games.
2004: Started every game for the Vikings, moving his consecutive starts to 39, despite battling back problems. Also started both playoff games.
2003: Started every game, extending his consecutive starts to 23. Helped pave the way for the NFL’s No. 1-ranked offense.
2002: Split time in his first game after signing on Nov. 2 and started the remaining seven games at left tackle.
College: Won many awards during his two seasons at Miami — first-team All-Big East in 2000 and 2001, CNN/SI National Player of the Year in 2001, Outland Trophy winner as the finest offensive lineman in college in 2001, and All-America in 2000 and 2001. Played two years at Lackawanna Junior College before transferring to Miami. He went from a defensive end in high school to an offensive tackle at Lackawanna. He redshirted his first season at Miami and went on to a stellar two-year career.
Personal: At Woodbury (N.J.) High School he put the shot, threw the discus and ran the 400 meters. Lettered twice in track and field. Donated a complete weight room to Lackawanna Junior College. He has an interest in the music industry and worked as a celebrity DJ at a New York City dance club during the 2003 offseason.
