College: Team captain who was a consensus All-American choice as a senior and semifinalist for the Chuck Bednarik Defensive Player of the Year and The Butkus Award, given to the nation’s top linebacker. A three-year starter who, in that span, had 244 tackles, 31 tackles for a loss, seven sacks, four interceptions, two forced fumbles and two blocked punts. Two-time All-American and three-time All-Big 10 selection. Started final 38 games of his college career. Suffered a serious knee injury as a freshman that required reconstructive surgery.
Personal: Played nine-man high school football in South Dakota, but was still named Gatorade Player of the Year for that state. One of only three players from South Dakota currently playing in the NFL – the others being teammate Ben Leber and kicker Adam Vinatieri.
