| Biography: |
How Acquired: Undrafted free agent signed following the 2006 draft in April.
Contract Status: Vikings Contract Chart
College: Fourth-year junior who entered the NFL draft early. Split time in 2005, starting half the season for the Jayhawks at cornerback and half at wide receiver. Defensively, he had 28 tackles, three interceptions, two passes defensed and a forced fumble. On offense, caught 34 passes for 313 yards and two touchdowns. Returned punts all three years at Kansas – averaging more than 10 yards per return. Split time in 2004 as well – tying for the national lead in interceptions with seven and caught 15 passes for 150 yards and two TDs. Played as a wide receiver in 2003 and set a school freshman record for receptions, catching 57 passes for 769 yards and five touchdowns.
Personal: Three-sport athlete who lettered in football, basketball and baseball in Santa Monica. As a high school senior, caught 66 passes for 1,229 yards.
Analysis: Priority free agent who some had rated higher than the Vikings’ final four draft picks. Fell strictly because of his 40 times. Naturally gifted athlete with fine ball skills and instincts. Not that big, fast or physical, but is a very nice fit as a Cover-2 corner and can also push for the No. 1 punt returner job. Played both ways (CB-WR) in college and also returned punts and kickoffs. Vitals: 5101 (5-foot-1 1/8), 183 pounds, 19 reps on bench press at 225 pounds, 1.66 (10-yard dash), 2.74 (20-yd), 4.53-4.67 (40-yd), 35.5 vertical jump, 9-7 broad jump, 4.19 short-shuttle, 11.42 long-shuttle, 6.84 three-cone. Nickname is “Slash” Gordon. |
