Biography:
Chris Hovan got to spend one season as a teammate with his mentor John Randle. Now, with Randle in Seattle and a revamped defense, Hovan will have to take on more of a lead role in the middle of the Vikings' defensive line.

He is expected to be one of the few mainstays on a defensive line that was overhauled this offseason in the free-agent market.

2001: Started all 16 games at under tackle, posting 55 tackles, six sacks, 21 quarterback hurries and six tackles for a loss.

2000: Hovan produced 54 tackles and two sacks in his rookie year. He became a starter midway through the season when the Vikings moved Randle to defensive end.

College: While at Boston College, Hovan became a starter almost immediately and endured a points-shaving scandal that rocked the football program. He stuck with BC because he wanted to honor his commitment to the school and became of its best defensive lineman. He finished his freshman year with 10 starts, 31 tackles and no sacks. In 1997, he started all 11 games, finishing with 58 tackles and four sacks; all 11 games started again in 1998 with 81 tackles and 5.5 sacks; and 11 games started again in 1999 with 75 tackles and 11 sacks.
