2006: Had a breakout season in the Vikings new defense and was rewarded with a five-year, $25 million contract extension that included $10 million in guaranteed money. Started all 16 games and finished the season with 142 tackles (95 solo), 19 quarterback hurries, three sacks, two interceptions, one forced fumble and two fumbles recovered. Has pair of career games in 2006. On Oct. 8 vs. Detroit, he scored a touchdown on a 45-yard interception return and, the game after signing his contract extension, he notched 15 tackles and recovered a fumble on the second play of the game vs. the Jets Dec. 17.
2005: Played in 15 games, starting 14 – coming off the bench for the season opener vs. Tampa Bay and missing the third game of the year vs. New Orleans with an ankle sprain. Finished third on the team with 74 tackles, adding one sack, one forced fumble and one fumble recovery.
2004: Started 14 regular-season contests and both playoff games. Notched a team-leading 125 tackles, seven for losses, in addition to seven passes defensed and four quarterback hurries on defense. Struggled at times in coverage.
2003: Saw limited time behind Greg Biekert, making 23 tackles and two QB hurries. Led the team with 27 special teams tackles. Saw increased time in the base defense in the second half of the season.
College: Consensus All-American and unanimous All-Atlantic Coast Conference first-team choice. Named National Defensive Player of the Year by The NFL Draft Report. Winner of the Butkus Award and Bednarik Trophy. Named ACC Defensive Player of the Year and the team’s Most Valuable Player. Led Maryland in tackles in three straight seasons. He posted 175 tackles (135 solos) with 8.5 sacks for minus-49 yards, 19.5 stops for losses of 86 yards and eight quarterback pressures in 2002. His 175 hits rank fourth on the school’s season-record list while his 19.5 stops behind the line of scrimmage rank third. In 2001, became Maryland’s first consensus All-American first-team choice since 1985. All-ACC first-team pick in 2001 and became only the fourth Terp to earn ACC Player of the Year honors (also named Defensive Player of the Year). Led the ACC in tackles (150) and stops for loss (28), and ranked seventh nationally with 13.64 tackles per game and second in the NCAA with 9.45 solo stops per outing in 2001. His 28 stops behind the line of scrimmage were the most in a single season in school history, breaking the old mark of 24 set by Randy White in 1974. Named the ACC Defensive Lineman of the Week six times, the most of any ACC defender in 2001. In 2000, started 10 games at strongside inside linebacker and led the team and ranked seventh in the Atlantic Coast Conference with 109 tackles (70 solos). Graduated from Maryland in May 2002 with a degree in Criminology and Criminal Justice.
