How Acquired: Signed as an unrestricted free agent by the Vikings on March 11, 2006.
Contract Status: Vikings Contract Chart
Career Stats: FoxSports.com Player Page
2006: Signed as a free agent in March and, in his first season with the Vikings, he scored 90 points – making 21 of 25 field goals and 27 of 28 extra points. He threw his first career touchdown pass on a fake field goal against Carolina Sept. 17, becoming the first Vikings kicker to throw a touchdown pass in team history. Brought in for his accuracy in close, he made all 21 of his attempts from inside 45 yards. He improved his streak of scoring 90 or more points to 10 straight seasons.
2005: As with the rest of the Packers, he fell on hard times in 2005. His 90 points were by far the lowest total of his career – the previous low-water mark was 104 and 113 points respectively. He made 20 of 27 field goal attempts, including four of five from 50 yards and beyond. Not only did that represent the most 50+-yard field goals in a single season, but matched his four-year total of field goals from that distance. Had his streak of eight straight years with 100+ points snapped – ending the third-longest streak in team history. Following the season, the Vikings targeted him as priority free agent, while the Packers made little effort to match the money the Vikings were offering.
2004: Had four game-winning kicks, giving him nine for his career. With 120 points (good for second in the NFC among kickers), led the Packers in scoring for an eighth season, taking the record from Don Hutson (seven); became one of three players to reach the century mark in each of his first eight NFL seasons. Jason Elam (13, 1993-2005) and Adam Vinatieri (10, 1996-2005) own the longest streak. Had converted 45 consecutive field goal attempts inside of 40 yards before missing a 31-yard attempt in the second quarter on Dec. 19 vs. Jacksonville. The streak was the longest among active players. Was selected as an alternate to the Pro Bowl. Was named the special teams “NFC Player of the Month” for October and December.
2003: Broke Don Hutson's 58-year-old team scoring record on Dec. 14 at San Diego.
2002: Was voted as the first alternate to the NFC Pro Bowl squad in 2002 after scoring 128 points, three points shy of his career high.
2001: Scored a then-career low 104 points, making just 20 of 31 field goal attempts that temporarily put his job in jeopardy.
College: A four-year letter winner (1993-96) at the University of California, acting as both the punter and placekicker during his final three seasons in Berkeley. Served solely as Cal's punter as a freshman. Finished career as the school's eighth-leading scorer with 177 total points. Was successful on 32 on 56 field goal attempts and 81 of 85 PAT tries (including Aloha Bowl). Had a 41.9-yard career punting average at Cal (including bowl games), good for third place (tie) in Golden Bears annals. As a senior, earned first-team All-Pacific 10 Conference honors as a punter and was voted second-team All-Pac 10 as a placekicker. Led team with 76 points as he converted 12 of 17 field goal efforts and 40 of 41 PAT attempts (including Aloha Bowl). |
