Biography:
Ed Ta’amu has moved around in college, at least his position with the football team evolved. If spring camps are any indication, Ta’amu could be moving up the Vikings’ ranks of offensive linemen.

He is characterized as an aggressive lineman, and offensive line coach Steve Loney agrees.

"The kid’s a mauler," Loney said on draft day. "He’s a very physical player … We may have to tone him down, not in the run but in the pass."

He will practice exclusively at guard, but with Chris Liwienski, Everett Linday, Corbin Lacina and Dave Dixon, the Vikings will likely view Ta’amu as a developmental player, but that development could earn the fourth-round pick of 2002 playing time by mid-season.

College: Ta’amu began his college career at Utah as a defensive end, playing in three games his freshman year. In 1999, he moved to defensive tackle, where he played four games. He finished his sophomore year with one game at guard. In 2000, Ta’amu moved to guard full-time and registered 124 key blocks. Started the final nine games at left guard in 2001 and had 123 knockdowns. He was a Super Sleeper Team selection by The NFL Draft Report and All-Mountain West second team.
