Led the Packers for the fourth time in the past five seasons in total tackles with 165 (109 solo). He also had 3 ½ sacks and two interceptions and was named as a first alternate for the NFC in the Pro Bowl. ... Started all 18 games. ... Signed a six-year, $34.85 million contract extension in April, including $12 million in guaranteed money upfront. ... Arrested on June 17 at Appleton, Wis., nightclub following physical altercation. Released after posting $500 bond.

2006: Started at middle linebacker for his fourth straight season, finishing second on the team with 141 tackles. ... In on 950 defensive plays (91 percent). ... Had two sacks and nine passes defensed. ... Started 46 straight games before he missed Green Bay’s Nov. 27 game at Seattle with a broken right hand that he sustained Nov. 19 against New England. ... Played with a large cast for the team’s final five games.

2003: Drafted in the first round to fill a gaping hole at middle linebacker, Barnett excelled to make most all-rookie teams. Finished third in The Associated Press voting for rookie defensive player of the year. Was rookie of the month in October after tallying 31 tackles and a sack in three games. ... For the season, he tallied 134 tackles, 95 of which were unassisted. He led all NFL rookies in tackles. ... Added two sacks, three interceptions and one fumble recovery. ... The recovery and one of the interceptions came in the victory at Tampa Bay. Along with 10 tackles and two passes defenses, Barnett earned rookie-of-the-week honors. ... Thanks to intelligence and tremendous sideline-to-sideline speed, Barnett overcame lack of size and played on a team-high 87.1 percent of defensive snaps. ... Signed through 2009.

Green Bay's first-round selection in the 2003 NFL draft (29th pick overall). ... Likely to be opening-day starter, either at weak-side or middle linebacker. Slotted for the middle to start with. Given Packers linebacking problems — subpar play last season and two of three starters from a year ago have been jettisoned — Barnett had better start.
