Injury history: Sustained a neck injury that caused him to miss the final two games of the 2006 season and was placed on injured reserve prior to the Week 17 game with St. Louis.
2008: Ended the season as the team’s second-leading tackler with 100, a career high for him. Started 16 of the 17 games and finished with 77 solo tackles, three for a loss, four forced fumbles, 13 passes defensed and one interception. Had a season-high 10 tackles against Tampa Bay.
2007: Started all 16 games opposite Antoine Winfield. Was fourth on the team, and first among defensive backs, with 81 tackles and led the team with 14 passes defensed. Added three tackles-for-loss, two forced fumbles and one fumble recovery. Scored his first defensive touchdown on a fumble return after taking a lateral from linebacker Ben Leber.
2006: Played in 14 games as a rookie and started seven straight at midseason after Brad Childress demoted Fred Smoot to nickelback duties. Finished the season with 42 tackles (30 solo), 10 passes defensed, two interceptions, one forced fumble and one fumble recovery. Was named NFC Defensive Player of the Week for his performance Dec. 10 vs. Detroit, when he had an interception, forced a fumble and recovered another in a 30-20 road win. Played through a neck injury for the final month of the season, but, when it was deemed that the Vikings were out of the playoff hunt, he was shut down vs. Green Bay on Dec. 21 and placed on injured reserve Dec. 27 before the final game of the season.
College: Started 44 of 51 career games for the Longhorns. A second-team All-Big 12 selection in 2005 with 86 tackles, two forced fumbles, a fumble recovery and 15 pass deflections. Played both right and left cornerback in college and started the final 44 games of his college career. Named Longhorns Most Improved Defensive Player as a second-year freshman in 2002.
Personal: All-state selection in Class 5A in Texas as a senior at Holmes High School in San Antonio. Played both cornerback and wide receiver in high school. Also competed in track, winning a Class 5A title in the 300 meters as a high school junior. Spent considerable time at Texas as a mentor athlete at area elementary and middle schools. Majored in youth and community studies at the University of Texas.
