| Biography: |
Chris Hovan has emerged as a leader of the defensive line. Hovan is now one of the few mainstays on a defensive line that was overhauled the past two offseasons in the free-agent market.
Many believe he is getting close to becoming a perennial Pro Bowl player, and he has proved to be extremely durable, not missing a game in his three pro seasons.
2002: Named to Sports Illustrated’s All-Pro Team by two different writers. Started all 16 games, registering 73 tackles, 5.5 sacks and 36 QB hurries.
2001: Started all 16 games at under tackle, posting 55 tackles, six sacks, 21 quarterback hurries and six tackles for a loss.
2000: Named All-Rookie by Pro Football Weekly, Football News and Football Digest. Hovan produced 54 tackles and two sacks in his rookie year. He became a starter midway through the season when the Vikings moved John Randle to defensive end. Drafted 25th overall by the Vikings.
College: While at Boston College, Hovan became a starter almost immediately and endured a points-shaving scandal that rocked the football program. He stuck with BC because he wanted to honor his commitment to the school and became of its best defensive lineman. He finished his freshman year with 10 starts, 31 tackles and no sacks. In 1997, he started all 11 games, finishing with 58 tackles and four sacks; started all 11 games again in 1998 with 81 tackles and 5.5 sacks; and 11 games started again in 1999 with 75 tackles and 11 sacks.
