| Biography: |
Byron Chamberlain signed with the Vikings on March 15, 2001 and was immediately billed as the main pass-catching tight end for the team. After increasing his production in previous years, it made sense for the Vikings to sign him in the 2001 offseason, then again in 2002.
Chamberlain has played in 101 games in his career, catching 163 passes for more than 2,000 yards.
2002: Caught 34 passes for 389 yards but struggled with a knee injury that limited his effectiveness and kept him out of action in three games. Had a 61-yard reception in the season opener against Chicago (9/8) and a season-high six catches against the New York Jets (10/20).
2001: Named to the Pro Bowl after his best season in the pros and best season by a Vikings tight end since the 1980s. Had 57 catches for 666 yards and three touchdowns. Ended tied for the fourth-best reception total by a Minnesota tight end in a season.
2000: In his sixth year with the Broncos, Chamberlain caught 22 passes for a 12.9-yard average and entered that season with the thought of a breakout year after Denver lost Shannon Sharpe to Baltimore in free agency. Chamberlain remained productive, but largely split time with two other tight ends.
1999: His most productive year with the Broncos. Had what at the time were career highs of 32 receptions and a 15.3-yard average with two touchdowns.
1998: Played in all 16 games with the Broncos and had three catches. Played in Super Bowl XXXIII.
1997: Played in 10 games and caught two passes.
1996: Played in 11 games, catching 12 passes.
1995: Spent 11 games on the practice squad and five on the active roster. Caught one pass.
College: Played at Wayne State (Neb.), where he set a school record with 161 career receptions. Also set the single-season receptions record in 1994 with 83. Began his career at Missouri and earned All-Big Eight honors in 1991.
Lettered three times in baseball and twice in track at Eastern Hills High School in Fort Worth, Tex.
