| Biography: |
Lewis Kelly started his slow ascension up the Vikings’ offensive line ranks as the third seventh-round draft choice by the team in 2000.
He has gone from that position to injured reserve to NFL Europe to high praise from head coach Mike Tice to a probable spot as the primary backup somewhere on the offensive line. His improvement in strength and conditioning has mirrored his rise to a contributing member of the 53-man roster.
2002: Suffered the loss of his wife due a rare blood disorder and complications with pregnancy just before the start of the regular season. Eventually started five games at left tackle before holdout Bryant McKinnie was signed. Place on injured reserve on Dec. 15 with an abdominal injury.
2001: Was active for three games, seeing most of his time on special teams.
2000: Spent most of the season on injured reserve after a preseason knee injury.
College: Lettered all four years at South Carolina State and was named the team’s best offensive lineman in 1999. After switching from tight end to tackle early in his college career, he was named the team’s most improved player in 1997.
