| Biography: |
Kenny Mixon got his NFL feet wet right away his rookie year of 1998, starting all 16 games for the Miami Dolphins after being drafted in the second round. In five years, he has only missed two games because of a football injury and was a staple of the Dolphins defense until the Vikings signed him as an unrestricted free agent during the 2002 offseason.
Mixon was the start of head coach Mike Tice’s revamped defense in 2002, as Tice stressed the importance of stopping the run. Tice called Mixon the best defensive end on the market, and Mixon responded by being an early leader on defense during spring camps.
2002: Was an anchor at left defensive end for the Vikings as an all-around defensive lineman who is as good or better defending the run as he is rushing the quarterback. Started all 16 games, posting 82 tackles, 4.5 sacks and 18 QB hurries.
2001: Started every game for Miami for the third time in his four-year career. Finished the season with 55 tackles.
2000: Started 13 games at left defensive end and three at right defensive tackle. Also started both playoff games for the Dolphins. Had 2.5 sacks, including one against Daunte Culpepper.
1999: Started two games at defensive end and played in nine more. Missed two games with an ankle injury and three more because of injuries from a motorcycle accident.
1998: Combined with fellow rookie Lorenzo Bromell for 10 sacks. Started all 16 games and garnered numerous rookie awards. Named all-rookie by Football News and Football Digest.
College: Lettered all four years at Louisiana State, making 14 starts in 30 career games and posting 100 tackles and 10 sacks.
Was named Central Louisiana Player of the Year at Pineville High School.
