| Biography: |
Nick Rogers took his sixth-round draft-pick status and parlayed that into a starting job his rookie year even though he had that dreaded label — "’tweener." That means some people saw him as a potential defensive end, and some view him as a linebacker. The Vikings saw him as a linebacker, despite his lack of experience at that position in college, and he didn’t disappoint.
A sixth-round draft choice in 2002, Rogers played for Vikings defensive coordinator George O’Leary at Georgia Tech, and Vikings linebackers coach Brian Baker recruited Rogers to Georgia Tech when he was an assistant there. O’Leary also coached Rogers’ older brother, Phillip, as a Yellow Jacket.
2002: Started 11 games as a linebacker for the Vikings (only Chris Doleman and Rip Hawkins started as many at that position in their rookie years). Totaled 57 tackles, three forced fumbles, two sacks and four tackles for a loss at strong-side linebacker. Also contributed six special teams tackles.
College: Played in five games in 1998, mainly on the Georgia Tech special teams. In 1999, he played in nine games and started five while moving between weakside linebacker and strongside linebacker. In 2000, he earned second-team All-ACC honors at defensive end while registering nine sacks and six fumbles along with 62 tackles. At DE again in 2001, he was second-team all-conference while making 64 tackles, six sacks and 12 tackles for loss.
