Billy Lyon was the Vikings’ first unrestricted free-agent acquisition in 2003, signing a three-year contract. The former Packer is a versatile player. Played all four positions on the defensive line over the course of his five-year NFL career.
2002: Played in 16 games, starting two and getting two sacks, for Green Bay.
2001: Played mainly as a backup to Vonnie Holliday at the "power" defensive end position, playing in 12 games. Was inactive for four games. Also saw action in both playoff contests. Had a career-high 25 tackles, including two sacks (tying his career best), plus one forced fumble and one pass defensed.
2000: Played in 11 games at tackle and end, registering 16 tackles and one sack.
1999: Played in 16 games, starting four. Posted 19 tackles, including two sacks.
1998: Used as a pass-rushing defensive tackle for the Packers in the four games in which he saw action.
1997: Signed with Kansas City as an undrafted free agent but was released before the regular season. Signed to Green Bay’s practice squad on Nov. 20.
College: Was a four-year starter (1993-96) for Marshall University in Huntington, W. Va. Redshirted in 1992. Played in three NCAA Division I-AA championship games with the Thundering Herd, capturing a national title in 1996. Finished career with 304 total tackles (164 solo), 30 sacks, 148 quarterback pressures, 12 forced fumbles, 3 fumble recoveries and 13 passes defensed.
