| Biography: |
When Hayden Epstein was released from Jacksonville and signed by the Vikings on Oct. 23, 2002, the Vikings’ special teams continued a trend for the season of being in flux. Epstein was signed as a strong-legged kickoff specialist, and the Vikings hoped he might be able to improve his field goal accuracy as an apprentice under Gary Anderson.
After a knee injury ended his season while making a tackle against Miami (12/21), Hayden’s future with the Vikings is to be determined.
2002: Drafted by Jacksonville in the seventh round, one of three kickers drafted. Made 5 of 9 field goal attempts with the Jaguars. Handled strictly kickoffs with the Vikings and helped the coverage units with his high-trajectory kicks.
College: Earned Michigan’s special teams player of the year honor as a senior and was a candidate for the Lou Groza (nation’s top placekicker) and Ray Guy (nation’s top punter) awards as a junior and senior. Made 26 of 42 field goal attempts in college, and averaged 39.9 yards per punt. Connected on field goal attempts up to 57 yards.
Attended the same high school as long snapper Brody Liddiard.
