Biography:
Doug Chapman is one of those players who will get a different evaluation depending on the source. Chapman has the ability to play third-down back or be an every-down back capable of getting the tough yards up the middle.

For now, he is a backup behind Michael Bennett and will once again compete with Moe Williams for the No. 2 role.

2002: Competed with Moe Williams for the primary backup spot behind Michael Bennett. Looked strong in early-season action but suffered internal injuries when he was tackled against the Jets on Oct. 20. Was placed on injured reserve, finishing the season with 12 carries for 89 yards.

2001: In his second season, Chapman got 63 carries, averaging 3.1 yards, and made 16 catches. He made three starts for the Vikings but was mainly Bennett’s backup.

2000: Chapman was inactive for all 16 games in his rookie year.

College: It didn’t take him long to showcase his talents at Marshall. His freshman year he averaged 6.3 yards per carry with 15 touchdowns – and that was starting only two games. In 1997 he missed about three games with a knee injury but still put up 1,060 yards with 11 touchdowns and a 6-yard average.

His final two years at Marshall saw a drop in average, perhaps because teams were focusing more on him after the departure of Randy Moss, but Chapman stilled average 4.6 and 4.0 yards per carry in his junior and senior years, respectively. His junior year he gained 1,265 yards and had a career-high 17 touchdowns. His senior year he put up 12 touchdowns and missed action again with injury problems.
