At a time when the focus of football fans is on the 2013 season and stadium debate, a Vikings…
Vikings cut 13 players
The biggest surprise of the early cuts was Lawrence Jackson. A six-year veteran who spent two years with Seattle and the last three with Detroit, was expected to compete for a final roster spot at defensive end, but was viewed as expendable in the first phase of player cuts.
By league rules, teams have until tomorrow afternoon to reduce their rosters from 90 players down to 75. Like the Vikings, many teams opted to make their cuts Monday rather than wait until the deadline. The Vikings have at least one roster exemption – for Christian Ballard, who left the team Aug. 19 for personal reasons. Jerome Felton, who was suspended for three games for violation of the league's substance abuse policy and is currently recovering from an emergency appendectomy, will not count against the 53-man roster Saturday when he suspension begins and rosters are reduced to 53 players.
The final cut-down to the 53-man rosters are due by 5 p.m. Central Time on Saturday.
